DREAMS - DRone European AIM Study
DREAMS project analyzed the current and future needs of Aeronautical Information Management-AIM within U-space, the european framework for Unmanned Traffic Management Contact usThe project DREAMS was co-founded by the SESAR Joint Undertaking within the Horizon 2020 program.
[DREAMS – H2020 – SESAR – 2016-1 – ref.763671]
It took place from October 2017 to September 2019.
partners
TopView was one of the only 4 italian companies involved in U-Space projects, in DREAMS we partnered with: IDS, TU Delft, EuroUSC Italia and EuroUSC Spain.

The main goals of the project
DREAMS study was based on the Consortium deep competence in systems and technologies currently used in air traffics management, flight planning, dynamic aeronautical information and in airspace design and management.
The study combined the knowledge of typical mission needs and operational requirements of commercial drones operators (BVLOS flights) with the knowledge of operating modes and procedures currently adopted by general civil aviation to support the growth of unmanned aviation and simultaneously the safety of operations.
The main goals:
> Fill the gap between information currently used in traditional aviation and the needs of the new unmanned aviation;
> Analysis and simulation of applications in the real world, both present and future, in order to ensure the scalability of the system;
> Analysis and validation of technologies for the information sharing which will enable the future implementation of U-space
TopView’s project contribution
TopView Srl shared with the consortium its know-how on RPAS Operations, System Engineering andSystem/Software design, with particular focus on the identification of the most suitable U-space scenarios for the validation campaign.
As Modelling & Simulation Leader, TopView Srl leaded the internal workgroup for the definition, design and the implementation of the parametric simulation model. We supported the identification of scenarios and all related technical activities.
Further we have worked to communication and dissemination activities within the project:
> web site and its updating
> external information and distributing it within the consortium partners
> Social network

suitable U-space scenarios for the validation campaign.

U-space is a set of new services and specific procedures designed to support safe, efficient and secure access to airspace for large numbers of drones
Information management is a key component of U-space, the European Commission’s vision to enable complex drone operations with a high degree of automation to take place in all types of operational environments, including urban areas.
