The use case explores the effectiveness of drones in performing biological plant protection treatments on vineyards and integrating these activities with U-space.
The flight mission began with crop field mapping, providing information on the size of the field and areas that need treatment or fertilization. The Agricultural drone has been then programmed to follow a predefined flight path that covers all areas requiring action. The flight tests were supported by U-space services provided by D-Flight., our guest to follow the operation in presence .
Additionally, noise measurements during the missions are conducted using a dedicated platform managed by CIRA. Human performance assessments are carried out by NAIS using specialized questionnaires.
The precision agriculture operations with drones carried out by TopView in Castel Campagnano (Campania – Italy) are part of the Italian cluster of the U-project U-ELCOME DSD, coordinated by Eurocontrol.
The first set of flight operations was conducted to digitally map the area and select portions of the vineyards that require organic phytosanitary treatment.
The second set of flights executed organic phytosanitary treatment through focused spraying operations on parts of the vineyard that required it.
Eurocontrol has followed the activity in attendance and expressed satisfaction with the results obtained, opening up the possibility of repeating it in the near future.
